The 17-day Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most challenging and rewarding adventures. Traversing remote alpine terrain, trekkers encounter dramatic landscapes—from lush forests and terraced fields to high-altitude passes and glaciers. Highlights include crossing French Pass (5,360m) and Dhampus Pass (5,240m), reaching Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,740m), and witnessing towering peaks like Dhaulagiri I (8,167m), Tukuche (6,920m), and Nilgiri.
This trek demands strong physical fitness and mountaineering experience, but rewards with breathtaking views, cultural immersion, and a sense of true wilderness. Itinerary
The first day will be the day of your entry to Nepal via Tribhuvan International Airport. Our agent will pick you up and escort you to your respective hotel. You will be availed of hot showers and an attached bathroom during your stay at the hotel.
On the second day, you will set out for Pokhara from Kathmandu. You will catch a bus or a rented vehicle as set by your agency and kick off your journey. You will reach Pokhara via 5 to 6 hours of ride from the capital city. On the way, you will pass through Dhading and Tanahun Districts, where you can enjoy the terraced fields, waves of the Trishuli river, and waterfalls. After reaching Pokhara, you will be escorted to your hotel – you also can set out for the exploration of Lakeside and the inner towns of the city.
Now it’s time to get away from Pokhara to step up for the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek. Your first destination is Muri, which is 7 hrs drive from Pokhara. Similarly, you will head towards Tatopani at 2474 meters above sea level. You will be passing across typical villages and cultural shrines along the bank of Myagdi Khola.
You will finally reach Muri after 7 hrs drive. Muri sits at an altitude of 1860 meters, where you will get panoramic views of Gurja Himaland Dhaulagiri Peak.
You must take another 6 to 7 hours of trek to reach the next destination, Boghara. You will descend towards Dudh Khola, cross it, and elevate your climb uphill again. The trail leads you to Gorban Hillsides, and you will climb towards Myagdi. You will pass through a narrow trail through the gorge and finally reach the spot, Boghara.
Your hike through Myagdi Khola is still not completed – you will walk along the west bank of Myagdi Khola and reach the subtropical forest. Then, you will head towards the Liphse as you cross the traditional villages. From there, you must catch a trail through the lush forest to reach Dobang, where you will stay overnight at a tea house.
The hike through the lush forest continues on the eighth day of your Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek. After breakfast, you will leave Dobang early in the morning and head through dense rhododendron and bamboo forest. After that, you will cross Myagdi Khola and tumble towards the east bank of Myagdi Khola. The trail through the lush forest will take you to Sallaghari, your next destination. The total time to reach Sallaghari from Dobang is around 5 to 7 hours of walk.
One of the essential things to remember is that the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek consists of hiking through the dense forest, which is applicable on the ninth day as well. You will walk through the Rhododendron forest and pass through the bridges and streams that make your journey natural and exciting. After around 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you will finally reach the Italian Base Camp – the views of Dhaulagiri Peak are magnificent from here. Also, you can delve into the beauty of sunrise and sunset from this viewpoint.
You will stay at the Italian Base Camp for acclimatization. You will focus on the rest and exploration of the nearby natural resources. Acclimatization is essential for your body when going for high altitude treks. Stay hydrated and eat nutritious food, and also focus on safety measures.
Now, on the eleventh day, you will have to head towards one of the most dangerous trails of the circuit to reach Glacier Camp. The camp is between the Italian Base Camp and Dhaulagiri Base Camp. You must have the required gear and equipment to climb this trail. After crossing the glacier, you will walk through the Chonbarden gorgeand follow the narrow trail leading to the Glacier camp. The total time to reach Glacier Camp from the Italian base camp is 6 to 7 hours.
Now the journey begins towards Dhaulagiri Base Camp – it’s your twelfth day of Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek, and you will walk through the glaciers again. It is considered a challenging hike due to the crevasses and steep landscapes. After 5 hours of a rough walk, you will visit the base camp – you can see the cinematic views of mountains like Dhaulagiri I, II, III, and IV. Similarly, the 360 view of the surroundings, including the Icefall ahead of the Campsite, is an attractive insight into Dhaulagiri Base Camp.
You will rest at Dhaulagiri Base Camp for acclimatization.
It’s one of the longest walks during your Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek – around 8 to 9 hours of walk from Dhaulagiri Base Camp. You will head towards the Hidden Valley after you wake up early and have breakfast. You will follow a trail to the left of the upper Chhondarban Glacier, hike uphill, and make your final ascent to the French Pass at 5360 meters. Though the walk is challenging, you are always in the eyes of Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak, accompanied by the beauty of prayer flags that reflects Buddhist culture on the way. After that, you will descend toward the Hidden Valley through a trail. Do not forget to take warm clothes with you since night can be very treacherous as the temperatures can go below -20 degrees Celsius.
Your destination is to approach Yak Kharka at 3680 meters. From Hidden valley, you will catch a trail that takes you to the moderate snow slope. You will have to cross the famous Dhampus Pass at an altitude of 5240 meters; then, you will hike downhill towards Kali Gandaki Valley. After nearly 7 to 8 hours of hiking, you will finally reach Yak Kharka, where you will stay at a tea house or camp.
Your descent continues on the sixteenth day too, where you will trek from Yak Kharka and reach Jomsom. It takes around 5 to 6 hours to hike from Yak Kharka to reach the destination. You will reach the Marpha village and then take a route towards Jomson. You will stay at a teahouse or lodge overnight.
Your Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is completed, and you will take a flight to Pokhara. After landing in Pokhara, you will enjoy sightseeing activities around Lakeside, Davis Falls, White Gompa, and many others. You can also explore the nightlife of Lakeside and delve into the parties full of music and drinks.
You will be heading back to Kathmandu. It takes 6 to 7 hours from Pokhara to reach Kathmandu. You will be staying at your hotel after reaching Kathmandu.
